The Clark Atlanta University Booster Club was organized in 1988. This organization was the successor organization to the "C" Club. Unlike the "C" Club whose members were all former male athletes, the Booster Club membership was opened to all alumni and friends of Clark. The purpose of the Booster Club is to provide support to the athletic programs at CAU.
In its first year of existence, the Clark Atlanta University Athletic Hall of Fame was established to recognize the accomplishment of former athletes. The first class of inductees included:Ralph Robinson | Coach |
Ralph Long Sr. | Tennis and football |
Leonidas S. Epps Jr. | Athletics Director and coach of five different sports |
Laura Demery | Basketball and tennis |
Almeta Hill | Tennis and basketball |
The Hall of Fame Induction ceremonies have been held each year since.
From the beginning, the Booster Club has provided financial support to the University. Starting with $6,500 in 1988, contributions have been made to the student athlete book fund and other purposes such as video equipment, warm up suits for tennis, sleds for football, and entry fees for the cheerleader team to participate in the National Black College Cheerleader competition.
In 1992 the Booster Club sponsored the first Labor Day Football Classic between CAU and Morris Brown at the Georgia Dome, the first collegiate game held at the Dome. This was a tremendous undertaking by the Boosters and raised over $80,000.00 for the University.
For several years the Booster Club has sponsored the annual Basketball reunion. The purposes of this activity are to recognize the current senior basketball players, and to recognize former basketball players. This occasion is also a time to remember Coach Leondias S. Epps for his contribution to CAU athletics.
The Booster Club has sponsored many bus trips to support the football and basketball teams, including trips to Fort Valley, Albany, Memphis, Fort Lauderdale and Houston.
In 1999 the Booster Club applied for and was granted tax-exempt status by the Internal Revenue Service. The Clark Atlanta Athletics Booster Association, Inc., as the Booster Club is officially known, currently has over 200 members. Membership is open to alumni, staff, students, former students and friends of the University
